Inkpen Poetry Day: "Lovely Lady, Lovely Autumn"

"Lovely Lady, Lovely Autumn"
                   By Rachel Heffington

Lovely lady, lovely Autumn
May I take a lock of hair
From the tresses that glow, burnished
In the sumac over there?

Lovely lady, lovely Autumn
You're bewitching when you're dressed
In your gown of amber elm leaves
With a hint of rose caressed.

Lovely lady, lovely Autumn
Do you blush at my advance?
For I see a crimson on the boughs
Of maple as they dance.

Lovely lady, lovely Autumn
You are such a gorgeous lass
With you eyes of bluest heaven
and your shoe of greening grass.

Lovely lady, lovely Autumn
You have stole my heart away--
How I longed for, how I wept for you
On Summer's hottest day!
